The Green family and YatchAid respond to hurricanes Irma and Maria (full article and video)

Print Email

In response to the tragedies in the wake of hurricanes Irma and Maria, YachtAid along with the Green family took up anchor and provided what aid we could to the ravaged areas. Our family has been the recipients of the hospitality and beauty of these Caribbean nations and in respect and thanks we did our best to return their kindness. Many great ships have passed through these waters over centuries, many bringing harm and many bask in the beauty of their nature. At their time of need, these Caribbean islands deserve the respect of aid, and these ships have a responsibility to do so. It has been an honor to work with YachtAid and the fantastic crew of the Dorothea III.

Ambassador Steven Green,
We have successfully completed our aid delivery in Grand Turk. We delivered food, water and other donated and purchased supplies. We pumped 15,000L of water ashore to jugs and a truck for distribution. We provided internet to local government officials and other aid workers (our provider boosted our bandwidth for free).
We cooked and facilitated delivery of cooked meals to both the local shelter and old folks center.

We used Post One and the tender to deliver water and food to Salt Cay a small devastated off lying island. Aaron accompanied the DART team to Salt Cay and helped put their RO water machine back online.

It was a very busy two days but extremely rewarding.

Thank you for supporting our efforts and allowing us to be a part of this experience.

Capt. John

Ambassador Steven J. Green receives FIU Pillar Award

Print Email

Ambassador Green AwardIn recognition of his longstanding support and commitment to FIU, Ambassador Steven J. Green was presented with the FIU Pillar Award during Spring 2017 Commencement. He is only the seventh individual to receive the prestigious award since the university's founding – and the first to receive the award from President Mark B. Rosenberg.

While the honorary doctorate is the highest academic recognition the university can confer, the Pillar Award is reserved for extraordinary individuals who have had a longstanding and transformative impact on the institution.

Ambassador Green, who along with his wife Dorothea Green and daughter Kimberly Green donated $20 million to the Steven J. Green School for International and Public Affairs, is a longtime champion of the university.

His passion and life's work is reflected in the programs and buildings that bear his name, including the Steven and Dorothea Green Library, which serves as the literal and figurative heart of the Modesto A. Maidique Campus.
